Dan Mangan + Blacksmith

'Club Meds' (album stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Dec 30, 2014

After unveiling his cover of Lauryn Hill's "Ex-Factor" just yesterday (December 29), Dan Mangan has set his sights back on original material.

Set to release Club Meds — their debut as Dan Mangan + Blacksmith — early in the new year, the Vancouver singer-songwriter and his backing band are giving away a sneak preview of the album in exchange for your social media savvy.

"Club Meds is about sedation," said Mangan, speaking about the new record in a previous statement. "Sedation can be chemical, but not exclusively so. There is a great vacation from actuality going on. Maybe it's always been there. It seems like everybody else is already at the party and that life is somehow easier or more fun under the fog. But instead, it only makes people feel more alone, more dangerous, more desperate. It's okay, though. We're all just particles."

The LP marks the follow-up to Mangan's 2011 effort Oh Fortune and was also produced by Colin Stewart (Black Mountain).
