Rebel Futurism: Session 2

BY Dimitri NasrallahPublished May 1, 2005

Crosstown Rebels label-boss Damian Lazarus garnered his fair share of attention with the first instalment of this mix series, a compilation that doubled as a snapshot of the current crop of dance music at the time. Rebel Futurism doesn’t stray too far from its predecessor’s credo. Featuring original cuts by top-shelf producers like Steve Bug, Anthony Rother and DJ Koze, and remixes by the likes of Michael Mayer, Playgroup and Sascha Funke, Lazarus wastes no time showcasing the best of what the past year has had to offer. He also throws in a number of impressive newcomers like Geiger and John Spring. Lazarus works best under the auspices of bringing underground beats to the masses. For anyone with an inkling of curiosity for what’s been going on in the world’s better dance clubs, Rebel Futurism is a one-stop primer on recent dance history.
