Daddy Yankee Announces Retirement with Final Album and Farewell Tour

'Legendaddy' is arriving later this week

Daddy Yankee — creator of countless hits and the man who coined the term reggaeton back in the '90s —  is bowing out. The King of Reggaeton announced his retirement from the music industry today, but before that happens, he'll be releasing a final album and embarking on a farewell tour.

Yankee's seventh (and at this juncture, final) album is called Legendaddy, and it's arriving this Thursday (March 24). Yankee's farewell tour will run from August to December of 2022, and includes stops in Toronto and Montreal. So far, the venues haven't been announced.

Yankee's retirement feels both somewhat premature and like an appropriately full-circle moment, as the genre that he helped create has become one of the most popular in the world, driven by the global successes of artists like Bad Bunny, Rosalía and J Balvin

Legendaddy will be Yankee's first album since 2012's Prestige
