Cordes En Folies (Crazy Strings) is a Vancouver trio who create a seductive synthesis that fuses French folk and art-song traditions with world rhythms. In addition to acoustic guitar and the versatile hurdy gurdy of Pierre Imbert, there’s effective use of berimbau in “Samba du P’tit Matin,” bouzouki in “Un Momentito” and “Bourrée d’Aurore Sand” and oud in “Avant de s’en aller.” Fans of adventurous folk and world beat rhythms will find plenty of refreshing grooves to savour here.
