Cooldown

Vivid

Whatever happened to the trip-hop revolution? As un-vogue as the term became, the spirit remains alive in groups combining evocative lyrics with extraordinary production. Akin to the sounds of Portishead and Moloko, Cooldown is a superb project weaving pop songsmithery with electronic experimentation. This self-titled debut is their first full-length recording and first for Vancouver's Spark Records. Vocalist and feature personality, Miss Benny provides a lyrical depth that is haunting and sensuous, and she's backed by an eight-piece band that is led by Front Line Assembly alumnus Michael Balch. Their music is rich, full and, at times, orchestral, with beats ranging from deep down-tempo to driving techno and most points in between. Definitely worth a listen!
