Cool

'Paint'

It's been less than a year since Vancouver's Apollo Ghosts played their last show, but band members Adrian Teacher and Amanda P have already lined up a new album with a new band. Cool, which also features drummer Shawn Mrazek, release their album Paint this month, and they've now shared it in full ahead of its official arrival.

While Apollo Ghosts favoured succinct jangle-punk anthems, Cool's songs are longer and more groove-oriented. There's an undercurrent of funk in "Saffron" and "Blue," while other songs venture into danceable post-punk territory, and closer "Gold" has a dreamily cinematic acoustic pulse.

The album was recorded by Vancouver production team JC/DC (Destroyer, the New Pornographers), with contributors including Karl Blau, Rose Melberg, Larissa Loyva and more.

It's available as a pay-what-you-want download from Bandcamp, while vinyl copies can be pre-ordered for $12. Be forewarned that there are only 40 copies reserved for folks living outside of Vancouver.

The band will release the album with a hometown show on March 22 at Red Gate.
