Makeovers

BY Sarah FergusonPublished Jul 27, 2011

Dirtybird Records creator and producer of ultra-cool party bangers ("Who's Afraid of Detroit," "The Whistler"), Claude VonStroke releases his compilation of remixes representing radiant changes and overall metamorphoses. "Shake it to the Ground," by DJ Blaqstarr and Rye Rye, is redone with vibrating bass and new ear-perking sounds, including what might be a sample of the Lost black-smoke monster. Andy Caldwell and Lisa Shaw's house classic, "Warrior," gets planted anew as a wholly original track of wind-me-up, dirty grooves. Cajmere's iconic "Percolator" builds slowly on the remix, leaving you wanting more, until the full vocal sample climax. Here with a new funky hook, the "Percolator" dance lives on. Grizzl-fiyah's mix of Katy B's "Easy Please Me" brings a delicious taste of the Grizzl-style concept in development (by Claude VonStroke), moving out of house into bass and vocals. A brand new Fully Dressed remix for "Wut," by Girl Unit, comes darker than the original, with travelling, dream-like sounds giving you goose bumps. Makeovers bedazzles with funky fresh Dirtybird flourishes over 12 tracks that were hot to begin with.
