Halifax-based Century Egg have released new single "Moving On" via Forward Music Group as the first half of a double A-side — with plans to follow the track up with another one (shout out to DJ Khaled) — in November.
The Canadian group find themselves growing weightless on the track as they shed their emotional baggage. "This is a song about trying to detach yourself from your past and let go of the trauma that holds you back from finally feeling better," Century Egg said of the single in a statement.
"Moving On" descends like a magnificent cyclone, pulling in debris in the form of smashing drums and jangly guitar to whip listeners along. A chorus of vocals envelops the instrumentals right off the bat, bringing to mind the anthemic sound of Arcade Fire with a pop twist. The release emphasizes the group's rock and Asian pop influences — including Faye Wong, Jun Togawa, Spitz, Cui Jain and Pu Shu — while its post-pop rhythm section and ripping guitar recall the Stooges and Thin Lizzy.
The track follows the quartet's debut EP Little Piece of Hair, which arrived in May and the recent release of a video for "Do You Want to Dance" off that same record.
Century Egg will celebrate the new tracks with a string of Canadian performances, including Toronto shows at Handlebar on November 14 and El Mocambo on November 15.
