Imagine the B-52s merged with Devo and/or the Residents, and you will get some impression of this quirky techno-punk band. The cheesy synth and chorale refrains of “I Want A Dead One” or “Fangs” can alienate as rapidly as they engage. Hopefully, “Thousand Eyes” indicates future musical potential, as it is a powerful ballad. “Hovering Ponies,” “Dracula Gary” and “If Only My Dog Would Barely Like Me” convey the manic fun of performers who sound like Pram pushed over the edge. Ideal listening if you want lounge music with plenty of subversive bite: equal parts vitriol and cheese.
