FASHION

Vancouver-based record label Nettwerk has produced another hit, and this time it's women's fashion. The company launched its Chulo Pony line of clothing in 2003 and now it's going global. With a presence across Canada, the USA and Spain, Chulo Pony is capitalising on the age-old link between music and fashion. "Musicians tend to have a strong sense of style and they've always set a lot of trends," says Crystal Heald, Art Director for Chulo Pony. "We want our clothes to feed into that glamour." The brand is often described as "cheeky," in reference to the English translation of the Spanish word chulo, but "poetic punk" would be a better fit. The fall 2005 collection features sharp tailoring alongside whimsical silkscreens, embroidered motifs and lots of contrasting fabric. It would suit the ladies who might elegantly sashay into a mosh pit.
