Despite a long, successful career in the music world that includes excellent releases from Sleater-Kinney and Wild Flag, Carrie Brownstein is becoming a go-to force on screen. Thanks to her critically acclaimed work on Portlandia, she's now courting other offers. She was recently cast in Todd Haynes' next film, and will now write the script for a new comedy.
Lost in Austen is a British television series from 2008 that follows a present-day woman who finds herself transported into Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.
The series was in the midst of a film adaptation from acclaimed rom-com screenwriter Nora Ephron (When Harry Met Sally..., You've Got Mail, etc.) before her death in 2012. Now, Brownstein has been hired to write the film.
Speaking with Variety, producer Sam Mendes said, "Carrie is smart and funny and original, and the project is very lucky to have her."
In addition to this film and her role in Todd Haynes' upcoming Carol, Brownstein is also currently working on the forthcoming fifth season of Portlandia. To top it all off, she'll also appear in Transparent, a new Amazon series from Six Feet Under writer Jill Soloway.
