Carole King

The Living Room Tour

BY Eric ThomPublished Sep 1, 2005

King’s Tapestry is still considered one of the best folk albums of all time and many of the songs from this multiple Grammy-winning disc continue to be covered today by contemporary artists. This intimate live double disc captures King’s silky, weathered voice that can still grab you with its honesty all these years later. Each disc opens with a new song ("Welcome to My Living Room” on disc one and "Loving You Forever — a delicate duet with band-mate Gary Burr on disc two). Throughout the 21 tracks, King belts out all of her classics that span her 40-year career such as "You’ve Got a Friend,” "(You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman” and "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow,” all backed by sparse acoustics that make you feel like you are getting a private showing from the diva in your own living room. The first disc closes with a seven-song medley that packs a punch, while the second disc’s finale is the perennial cover tune "Locomotion.” Overall, a great sign that even tough King is entering her 7th decade, the songstress can still pull at the listener’s proverbial heart strings with her timeless love songs.
