The Butthole Surfers and the Flaming Lips are among the few pioneers of being truly fucked up, although the former have always been ahead of the game, with special thanks to Gibby Haynes. GIbby is the fucked-up prophet of doom - his brain is one giant crack rock dipped in LSD. Luckily for the masses, they have remastered their infamous early EPs - their debut and a live release - which find a home on CD for the first time. And they are masterpieces of death funk punk insanity to the extreme, pledging allegiance for all of the fucked up people out there to wave their freak flags high. Haynes' social commentary and song titles have always been touching, portraying the grit of society, as evident in such tracks as "Revenge of Anus Presley." These releases are the predecessor to bands like Ween and Racebannon, and should be treated like a family heirloom. There are additional tracks tacked onto these - two more live numbers ("Gary Floyd" and "Matchstick"), the lovely "Sinister Crayon" and a demo of "Something" as well. The consistency of insanity is so rampant on these albums that you will actually feel normal after listening to them; otherwise they just might kill you.
