Broken Social Scene's Brendan Canning Sets Sights on New Album

Just this afternoon (November 10) we saw some videos from what may be Broken Social Scene's last-ever show, which took place in Brazil on Tuesday (November 8). Now that BSS is officially on hiatus, the band's co-founder Brendan Canning is planning to release a new album of his own.

Speaking with Danko Jones on his podcast [via Spinner], Canning (who just so happens to be Danko's former roommate) revealed that he has a LP in the can.

"I actually have a full album that's currently being looked at by a label," he said, adding that the label in question isn't his longtime home Arts & Crafts.

The ensuing conversation features several confusing asides, but by the sound of things, the new record will come out with Canning's little-known project Cookie Duster, originally a duo with ex-Change of Heart keyboardist Bernard Maiezza who released a self-titled LP in 2001. That project included guest appearances from Evan Cranley of Stars, Spooky Ruben and -- surprise, surprise -- Danko Jones.

Whatever ends up being released, it's good to know that the possible dissolution of Broken Social Scene won't slow down the members' output. Drummer Justin Peroff recently announced that he will be releasing a self-titled album with his band Eight and Half next year.
