Boxer the Horse won over plenty of Canadian music fans with 2010's Would You Please, which pushed the Charlottetown, PEI-based indie rock band's sound to "new, more textured depths." Now, they're hoping to equally impress listeners with the follow-up, French Residency, which will see an independent release on March 13.
According to a press release, this album finds the band exploring new influences that include "80s alternative and '90s lo-fi groups." The record was produced by Alec O'Hanley, a member of fellow East Coast groups like Two Hours Traffic and the Danks.
You can preview this new sound by checking out the single "Rattle Your Cage" below, which is premiering here on Exclaim.ca. With its brittle distortion and laid back vocal approach, there's no mistaking the influence of '90s lo-fi rock.
You can see the album art above and the tracklist below.
French Residency:
1. "Community Affair"
2. "Sentimental/Oriental"
3. "Rattle Your Cage"
4. "Pretty Bloody"
