Blue Man Group

The Complex

BY Andrew SteenbergPublished Jun 1, 2003

You’ve gotta wonder who the genius is responsible for signing a visually-oriented performance troupe like the Blue Man Group to produce 14 songs for an audio compact disc? It’s hard enough watching these indigo idiots bang pipes against a wall for three minutes, now I have to listen to them do it for nearly an hour? While, not to mention, Dave Matthews and Gavin Rossdale snarl over top of the shit? No way. The sampling genius of Kid Koala, who shows up on "What is Rock” couldn’t even save this beast. Fortunately, another Canadian, Esthero, provides the only bright spot in the form of "White Rabbit,” but her beautiful voice could sound good over the Blue Men farting for 40 minutes. The rest just sounds like a fuckin’ Toyota commercial.
