A young generation of musicians continues to be influenced by all the worst aspects of black metal culture. Last week, a New Zealand metal drummer channelled Lords of Chaos when he was arrested for two church fires in his country. Not to be outdone, an American has now been arrested for three church fires.

Holden Matthews, a 21-year-old bassist, was arrested on Wednesday (April 10) in connection to three church fires set in St. Landry Parish, LA. The congregation of all three churches is predominantly African-American.

Matthews' social media presence suggests a love of black metal. He also has a band called the Vodka Vultures, although they haven't released any music just yet.

According to The Daily Beast, Matthews has commented on memes related to church-burning OG (and convicted murderer) Varg Vikernes. Further, Matthews had recently posted a photo of a knife and a gun with the caption, "I carry this…..maybe not legally but I only truly follow the law of Odin….. which says as you said, arm yourself…… Odins advice> modern law."

Matthews also commented on a drawing of a pagan-like figure on his belt that appeared to look like a swastika. He wrote, "the belt gives him extra strength and power…..white power lmao jk jk I had to."
