Earlier this month, we reported that the Black Lips were working on their sixth studio album with modern hit-maker Mark Ronson in a New York studio. Writing about Ronson, we said, "the super-producer is more than qualified to handle the Black Lips' intoxicated antics after working with Amy Winehouse." Little did we expect that the small joke would get back to the artists.
Yesterday (November 22), Rolling Stone posted exclusive in-studio footage that showed the Black Lips kicking back in the studio with Ronson. Scrolling through his smart phone, guitarist Ian St. Pe read the above quote to Ronson, who responded, "I would put it somewhere in between a Busta Rhymes and a Lily Allen. I dunno, I can't really compare it to anything else I've done. I was excited to work on this record because for me I have a tendency to get obsessive over certain sounds and make everything a bit pristine and I knew that didn't have a place in this project."
The full clip can be streamed below. And of course, we will keep our eyes peeled for Black Lips footage of them reading this story for further meta-coverage.
