Who are you?
Bill Cameron; Straight Edge Punk Rocker, Philosopher, Anarchist, Propagandist, Drummer, and Scholar.
What are you up to?
I am currently working on starting a new punk band out of my home town; I haven't played with anyone in a while.
Hometown and current HQ:
Kapuskasing, ON; still live there, but operate mainly out of Timmins, ON
Current fixations:
Liberatarianism; Bringing science and religion back together, where they agree; AFI-The Art of Drowning (vinyl, of course!); and Aaagh! It's the Mr. Hell Show!
Mind altering work of art (not your own):
Strung Out-Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues, Wagner-Ride of the Valkyries, Robert A. Heinlein-Stranger in a Strange Land, Robert Service-The Cremation of Sam McGee.
Most memorable/inspirational gig and why?
Youthstock, 1999: I was playing with just about the worst band on the planet, we didn't know what to play or how to play it, we were severely upstaged by all the other bands, and the drum kit kept falling apart in the middle of every song! All in all, a learning experience...
What should everyone shut up about?
MP3s destroying recorded music...It's not going to happen any time soon!
Your greatest strength and weakness:
Strength: Integrity/Weakness: None, unless you count my rampant and out-of-control superiority complex, which I don't!
Your vital daily ritual:
Listening to The Clash-London Calling, on original vinyl, playing on my turntable.
Guilty pleasure:
Boston Public; Beethoven and Wagner.
If I wasn't playing music I would be:
Listening to other people play it. That, or dead...
Your most memorable day job:
Working at this music store in my hometown: it was where I hung out and what I did anyway, but I was getting payed for it!
Best/worst advice received:
Best: Never be afraid to show who you are. Worst: "Cut your hair, you freak!"
I would drop everything to play a benefit for:
Legalizing all those arbitrary crimes that don't actually hurt anyone but potentially those who chose these things for themselves, like narcotics of any kind, prostitution, and ticket scalping (even though I am sXe).
What makes you want to take it off and get it on?
A brilliant woman with nice eyes.
What personal trait would make you kick someone out of your band? And have you?
Hypocrisy; no, that's purely theoretical.
When I think of Canada I think:
Health Care.
Music and sex: Is there a difference? Why?
Yes, there's a difference. One is spiritual ecstasy, the other physical/emotional.
Strangest brush with celebrity:
William Shatner and showed up for the dedication of this spaceship statue in this tiny town called Moonbeam, a fifteen-minute drive from my hometown with a population of about 250. I still don't get it...
What does your mom wish you were doing instead?
She just wishes I would cut my mohawk off. Other than that, she's cool with it.
