Big Muff

Aurally Exciting Remixes

Big Muff is an alias of Ital Shur, better known to others through his membership with the Groove Collective. Compared to his former band mates, his sound is light on the instrumentation but compensates with the sex appeal of its silky feel. All of that's more or less maintained on Aurally Exciting Remixes (the original versions are available on Music From the Aural Exciter), but the guest knobblers take the tunes into their own as well. Groove Armada's Big C throws in slick breaks and acidic chords on "Pornstar," while King Britt and Dozia push theirs into a deep house train. "Feel What You Know" is given a triple take by Bob Sinclair and Smith & Mighty. The latter give it a much more rootsy sound on the down-tempo, drum & bass versions that brings out the consciousness of the lyrics in a more direct way. Francois K's mix of “My Funny Valentine” takes the jazz standard into a disco dream, and Jason Jinx simply gets freaky on "So Far Away." A solid selection of tracks, but mostly for DJs looking for their favourite mixes.
