Between the Buried and Me guitarist Dustie Waring has announced that he will be sitting out the band's upcoming The Parallax II North American tour in the wake of accusations that he raped and impregnated a fan.

The following article contains potentially triggering material relating to sexual assault and violence. If you believe you have experienced or witnessed sexual misconduct and are looking for support, consult the Canadian Resource Centre for Victims of Crime to find resources in your area.

The allegations recently surfaced on Reddit, with the accuser recounting the alleged incident on r/BetweenTheBuriedAndMe using an anonymous account. According to the alleged victim, five years ago, Waring took advantage of her in a bar bathroom while she was inebriated after a BTBAM concert she had been at with her friends — resulting in an alleged pregnancy, which the victim says she terminated.

Screenshots of Instagram DMs between the accuser and Waring were also included in the post. Although the accuser says she blacked out, apparently this chat with the musician the following morning helped fill in some of the blanks.

"In those texts he confirms that no condom was used, confirms that he penetrated me, tells me to 'live a little' and insists there was no altercation," the alleged victim wrote, referring to an altercation between Waring and one of her friends. According to the friend, the band member had been "creeping on" the accuser all night.

Waring has now issued an official statement on his social media accounts. "I have recently been made aware of allegations from 5 years ago which were posted this weekend on Reddit," the guitarist wrote. "I do not condone non-consensual sex and have never acted without consent in any part of my private life or maliciously taken advantage of anyone."

He continued:

These allegations have come as a complete shock, having dedicated my life to being of service to people that need help in many forms of recovery. I will therefore be taking some time to spend with my family to focus on maintaining my several years of sobriety which will include sitting out the Parallax II tour.

With the exception of this statement, I will be dealing with this matter privately with my bandmates and discussing any future action with my lawyer in order to protect myself and my family.

"Dustie Waring will not be performing on the Parallax 2: Future Sequence Tour," the band added in a brief statement of their own. "We will have a session guitarist filling in at all scheduled dates."
