Halifax's Best Fiends will release their self-titled collection on June 27, but with band member Liz Robinson celebrating a birthday today (May 27), they have shared it a full month early.
The tape consists of eight slices of fuzzy, upbeat rock. The band keep their songs succinct, with only two of the tracks surpassing the three-minute mark and only the grungy "Soul" easing back on the upbeat party vibe. The tracks draw on racous punk and woozy garage-psych influences, but there's also an undercurrent of vintage rock'n'roll, with "Street Surfin'" sounding tailor-made for doing the twist and "Always Lies" surging along like a speedy, punk-ified boogie.
Best Fiends was mixed and mastered by James O'Toole. Stream it below.
The cassette is being issued in a limited edition of 20 ahead of next month's official release. For now, the tapes are only available at shows.
