Ben Klock

One

BY Dimitri NasrallahPublished Feb 22, 2009

Ben Klock's One is the latest album from a streak of winners over at the Ostgut Ton label, which has just rounded out a darling 2008 in minimal techno circles on the back of exceptional releases by Shed and Marcel Dettmann. Like those producers, Klock is also one of the residents at Berghain, the Berlin nightclub that doubles as the current centre of the international techno scene. And so expectations for this debut are high. One certainly doesn't disappoint but it also doesn't rise to the same distinctiveness of past Ostgut releases, with Klock's brand of minimal purity a bit too functional to pull in any more than the diehards. A good outing, nevertheless, from a strong label and able producer, and definitely worth a listen for those interested in other names from this club.
