Back in 2007, Stars issued their Do You Trust Your Friends? collection, which gathered covers and remixes of the troupe's Set Yourself on Fire LP as performed by the likes of the Dears, Metric and Final Fantasy. Apparently, Death Cab for Cutie's Ben Gibbard was supposed to be in on the action as well, but the dude never finished his cover of the title track in time. Better late than never, Gibbard has just tweeted his efforts.
The musician skimps out on the buzzy pace of the electro-pop-flirting original in favour of slowed-down glitch beats reminiscent of his Postal Service days. Thick waves of synths sit high in the mix, but Gibbard's downy emo croon also gets backed up by some unplugged acoustic guitar strums.
