Ben Cook Preps New Young Guv Album: 'True Love Cafe'

The never-not-busy Ben Cook continues to have his hand in multiple projects. There's Fucked Up's upcoming Glass Boys LP, his schmaltzy synth pop project Yacht Club, last year's No Warning reunion and the ongoing output of his Bad Actors record label. Of course, that's not all — the artist recently told us that he has plans for a new LP from his Young Guv project.

Previously known as Young Governor, Cook has since shortened the moniker for his solo output. He's also finally prepared the debut album from the project called True Love Cafe. The album features 10 tracks from the artist, which he says are "mostly all real songs."

Speaking with Exclaim!, he says, "It's a record based on fictional characters and stories surrounding a strange Toronto landmark at a very shady corner (Dundas and Sherbourne) called True Love Cafe. It's half radio rawk hits, and half minimalist drum machine pop that smells like freshly clean laundry."

The album is due later this year. It will be released by Cook's own Bad Actors imprint in Canada and via Slumberland elsewhere. Cook also plans to tour as Young Guv.
