A couple of weeks back, Beirut main man Zach Condon announced a slew of spring/summer concert dates, which was exciting since the global-minded, melodramatic balladeer seemed to have been hibernating the last little while. It's been two years, in fact, since his last effort, the March of the Zapotec/Realpeople Holland double EP. Problem was, while the tour featured the band criss-crossing the globe, not a single Canadian date popped up on the original schedule. Quite frankly, we were crushed. Well, buck up, everyone, because Beirut just added a few Canuck concerts to their tour route.
A press release confirms that Condon and co. will be heading our way, hitting up Montreal twice in July for the Osheaga Festival, with single concerts also announced for Toronto and Vancouver. You can check out the dates below.
While a new Beirut album has yet to be announced, the band recently contributed a mandolin and percussion-led cover of Caetano Veloso's "O Leãozinho" to the Red Hot + Rio 2 compilation. The set, which will raise money and awareness as part of the Red Hot Organization, will be released June 28 and also features tracks from Dirty Projectors, Beck and Neon Indian, among others.
