Beirut

"Perth"

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jan 21, 2016

Last year, Beirut delivered their latest LP No, No, No, and now they've kicked off 2016 by sharing a clip for that album's "Perth."

The video was directed by Clara Aranovich and shot between Yosemite and Santa Monica, showcasing the dancing of Maceo Paisley. The split-screen style captures his moves amidst contrasting scenes of snow and sand.

Aranovich says she was inspired by the song's throwback to funk-era dance music. She wanted to channel that feeling and rhythm into the visuals, while incorporating stunning natural surroundings.

"Nature is a somewhat like a church to me — a place of reverence that is deeply democratic in that it belongs to both everyone and no one," she said in a press release. "These places are as beautiful as they are a neutral canvas, as real as they are surreal."
