Beefs 2011: Courtney Love Explains Onstage Rant, Continues to Bash Dave Grohl

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Nov 16, 2011

While earlier this week, footage surfaced of Courtney Love having a meltdown at a gig in Sao Paulo, Brazil after a fan held up a Kurt Cobain T-shirt, a new clip has surfaced that better articulates the anger she felt at the show.

The interview, which apparently took place shortly after the gig, kicks off with a quick explanation from Love that it's tough to see pictures of her deceased husband's face while she's playing, but the conversation quickly steers into a tirade against Foo Fighters main man Dave Grohl, who she believes is unjustly laying claim to Nirvana's fortunes.

"I do own Nirvana, with my daughter," Love explained, adding that tax laws force her to give funds to Kurt's sister Kim and mother Wendy. "He [Grohl] doesn't need the money. His mother's a banker, his father's a stockbroker, and he's making five million a show.... He can afford shit. Why the fuck, then, does he get a Nirvana Inc. credit card and I don't." Love went on to complain that Grohl apparently purchased an Aston Martin, while her sister-in-law supposedly resides under a bridge in Washington and her mother-in-law lives in squalor.

"She's got black mould, and Dave bought an Aston Martin last week," Love said.

Love also maligned the former Nirvana drummer further, insisting he had nothing to do with the songwriting.

"He didn't write one fucking note," she seethed. "He didn't even write the drum riff in 'Smells Like Teen Spirit.' Kurt owns 100 percent of that publishing."
