Beck

"Sorry" / "Heaven's Ladder" (live video)

Last night (May 19) at Santa Cruz, CA's Rio Theater, Beck finally let the rest of the world know exactly how a couple of compositions from his sheet music-only set Song Reader are intended to sound by giving them their official live debuts.

"Sorry" received a folky, burnt-orange arrangement of soft acoustic strums and Beck's melancholy-laced lines about how he "used to be happy, used to be laughing."

The heart-pumping "Heaven's Ladder," meanwhile, centres around the sound of spiral staircase piano runs spindling across the keyboard. The group stumbles around the 2:15 mark, leaving Beck to chuckle out a "one-two-three" count-in, but the run-through was breathtaking nonetheless.

You can peep both performances out in the live clips down below.
