Again Epitaph has gone out on a limb to display the label's diversity and released a band that would probably be better suited to Sub Pop Records. Here are the Beatsteaks, a powerfully sonic hair rock band without the hair but with a projected punk attitude. Produced by Faith No More bassist Billy Gould, the Beatsteaks come off sounding like Soundgarden, Buck Cherry, the Hellacopters, the Descendents and Alice in Chains all caught in a blender. Now, one might think that this mishmash may sound like complete trash, however, nothing could be further from the truth. The Beatsteaks may fluctuate greatly in tempo from song to song, but they keep the beat, and Living Targets keeps ears aurally glued to the unpredictability of the music.
