It's been 10 years since Avenged Sevenfold delivered their breakthrough album Waking the Fallen, and as has become the custom, the California metalcore crew are celebrating the good old days with a deluxe, expanded anniversary edition of the LP.
As with the original, the spit-shined Waking the Fallen: Resurrected comes via Hopeless Records. On August 26, the label will be delivering the set on double CD and as a vinyl box set. The 12-song tracklisting is preserved as is on CD, while the bonus disc features 11 previously unreleased tunes. The vinyl version spreads this all across four LPs and a bonus 7-inch.
One of the bonus tracks is "Waking the Fallen," which had existed in the band's repertoire but had never been officially released until now. Interestingly, the song's piano intro was later reworked into A7X's City of Evil single "Beast And the Harlot."
Other bonus material includes a series of demos tracked with Thrice's Teppei Teranishi that feature alternate lyrics and passages than their fleshed out final versions. There are also a handful of live tracks recorded at various early gigs to sift through as well.
Both CD and LP editions come packaged with a DVD featuring a 30-minute documentary surrounding the creation of Waking the Fallen, which features era-appropriate footage as well as brand new interviews with band members. The DVD also includes a video for the album's "Unholy Confessions."
