At the Drive-In/Mars Volta Frontman Cedric Bixler-Zavala Launches New Band: Zavalaz

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 15, 2013

While Omar Rodríguez-López gets his Bosnian Rainbows project off the ground, fellow At the Drive-In/the Mars Volta alumnus Cedric Bixler-Zavala also has a new band. The frontman's latest endeavour is Zavalaz.

This band finds Bixler-Zavala re-teaming with another former member of the Mars Volta, bassist Juan Alderete. They are joined by singer-guitarist Dan Elkan (Them Hills, Broken Bells) and drummer Gregory Rogove (Megapuss).

This is could be an expansion of Bixler-Zavala's in-the-works solo project. He previously announced that he was working on an album and promised "Lots of desert ballad space jams, lots of harmonies, lots of lap steel and piano. Lots of AM radio love songs. Short bitter sweet luv songs. Be warned I'm not making a rock record. It might lightly rock but not like I'm known for." It's currently not clear if this forthcoming record is still a solo affair, or if it will be released under the new band name.

See Zavalaz's upcoming U.S. tour dates below. Most of the gigs are with Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer's band Dot Hacker.
