Sheffields Arctic Monkeys took home the Nationwide Mercury Music Prize on September 5 for their debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not. With the £20,000 cheque in their hand, the bands front-man Alex Turner stated, "Somebody call 999, Richard Hawleys been robbed! Thanks to everyone thats helped us. Normally it doesnt go to a band thats sold so many records, to put it bluntly, but were pleased. Theyre good tunes, thats what we do and there arent any tricks, people are trying to do too many tricks.
