Following his final live performance with April Wine last month, founding guitarist and singer-songwriter Myles Goodwyn is set to be inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Goodwyn will officially receive the honour from fellow Maritimer Lennie Gallant on May 4 as part of the 35th annual East Coast Music Awards in Halifax, NS. Later this year, the artist's name will be added to the permanent exhibit at the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame Museum in the National Music Centre in Calgary, AB.

"To be inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, has been a wish of mine for many years," Goodwyn shared in a statement. "It is possibly the most significant award I've ever received. What has mattered most to me, for all my years in the business, was to be taken seriously as a songwriter."

"On behalf of all music fans, we thank Myles for sharing his gift as a songwriter, singer, guitarist, and performer who has given us the soundtrack to a generation; and he'll continue to inspire a new generation as the creative force behind the next evolution of April Wine," CSHF board chairman Stan Meissner added.

Goodwyn, who is April Wine's longest serving original member, founded the band in Nova Scotia in 1969 with longtime friend Jim Henman and his cousins, David and Ritchie Henman. The band delivered their debut eponymous album in 1971, anchored by Goodwyn-penned single "Fast Train."

Goodwyn's contributions to April Wine's catalogue range from rockers like "Roller" and "I Like to Rock," to ballads like "Rock n' Roll is a Vicious Game," "Just Between You and Me" and "I Wouldn't Want to Lose Your Love."

In 2009, April Wine were inducted into the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame and received the JUNO Lifetime Achievement Award. Goodwyn and April Wine were also inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame the following year.

While he won't join them on the road, Goodwyn will continue writing and producing for April Wine. His third solo LP, following 2018's Myles Goodwyn and Friends of the Blues, is due for release in the summer of 2023.

The 35th Annual East Coast Music Awards will be broadcast across Canada on selected community television stations including Rogers TV, and can be viewed online at ECMA.com and RogersTV.com.
