Antony and the Johnsons' Live 'TURNING' Show Captured with New Film

BY Alex HudsonPublished Nov 1, 2012

Back in 2006, Antony and the Johnsons teamed up with filmmaker Charles Atlas to present the live performance piece TURNING. Now, that has been turned into a documentary of the same name, which will be screened in some U.S. and UK cinemas in the coming weeks.

This live concert film highlights 13 women with difficult-to-categorize personas. A press release explains, "Whether they are androgynous, transgender, covered in makeup or bare-skinned, what is important is their hard-won humanity, expressed with the transcendent power of Antony's music." Consequence of Sound notes that the flick will include interviews along with live footage.

The film will make its U.S. premiere on November 11 in New York, and will subsequently be screened at the city's IFC Center and around the UK. There is currently no word as to whether it will come to Canada or if there will be a DVD release, but it's most likely only a matter of time before we see the film in some form.

This follows hot on the heels on Antony's live album Cut the World.
