Anjimile Is 'The King' on New Album, Shares Title Track

"If 'Giver Taker' was an album of prayers, 'The King' is an album of curses"

Having signed to 4AD back in 2021, Anjimile has announced his first album for the label. The King is out on September 8, and he has shared the title track.

The follow-up to 2020's Giver Taker is said to be an emotionally raw response to being Black and trans in America, according to a press release. "If Giver Taker was an album of prayers, The King is an album of curses," Anjimile said in a statement.

The album was recorded with Canadian-born producer Shawn Everett (Kacey Musgraves, the War on Drugs) in Los Angeles. Aside from a few contributors (including Big Thief drummer James Krivchenia), nearly the entire album was performed by Anjimile with an acoustic guitar.
