Andy Sheppard Emerges as Find the Others, Announces Canadian Tour

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Oct 11, 2011

For over a decade, Toronto-based artist Andy Sheppard has composed luscious soundscapes using his guitar, an old laptop and some sound samples, but his latest project, titled Find the Others, will have him weaving film footage into the mix as well.

A press release explains that Find the Others' upcoming self-titled album, made up of ambient noise clips, guitar arrangements and film footage, is a "delicately emotional offering" exploring "the contrasts between a quiet childhood in tobacco country and a frenetic life in the city." The multimedia project will be released November 1. You can check out the album's cut-up acoustic guitar and spoken word piece "I Like You" in a new video clip down below.

While Sheppard conceived the project, a cast of collaborators hopped on board to lend a hand, including actress Isabella Rossellini, Andy McNeill, Snowblink, Mark Duggan, Jorn Andersen (Bruce Cockburn, David Wilcox) and Olivier Alary.

In support of the project, Sheppard will kick off a cross-Canada tour on October 22 in Halifax and head as far west as Victoria. Find the Others' visuals -- done by Matt Hilliard-Forde (Buck 65, Emm Gryner) and Graydon Sheppard (Feist, Hidden Cameras), among others -- will be screened at performances as well. You can check the schedule below.

The artist is also holding a contest for aspiring filmmakers to take part in the trip, offering people the chance to make a video for his tune "And the Bells They Rang." The winner will win a cash prize of $750 and have their footage used during the tour. You can find out more contest details here.
