Andre 3000 Not Playing Jimi Hendrix in Biopic

Despite Jimi Hendrix's family consistently denying that a biopic is in the works for the deceased guitar legend, people in the film industry keep insisting that one will be made. The latest rumour found Captain America actress Hayley Atwell hinting at a Hendrix-themed flick with Outkast rapper Andre 3000 in the title role. True, that sounds awesome, but a statement has since been issued that the tidbit the actress offered was pure bunkum.

"Next up is possibly a Jimi Hendrix biopic -- an independent film with Andre 3000 from Outkast playing Jimi Hendrix. But I don't know, really. The Atwell team is like, 'Let's just wait and see,'" Atwell recently told Esquire [via Hip Hop DX].

Soon after the piece was published, Hendrix's sister, Janie (the CEO of Experience Hendrix), refuted the claims, adding that "no such film, were it to include original music or copyrights created by Jimi Hendrix, can be undertaken without its full participation."

While we may never get to see Andre 3000 shake a Stratocaster like a polaroid picture before dry-humping it and setting it on fire, there's a chance we'll get to see some legit Hendrix footage soon via a new documentary.

"With Sony Legacy, our partner, we are active in releasing documentary material starring, so to speak, Jimi Hendrix as himself and plan to continue on this path," Janie confirmed.

Neither a title nor a release date has been given for the project just yet.
