Amanda Marshall Returns with New Album 'Heavy Lifting,' Canadian Tour

The Toronto artist's first new music in over two decades arrives this week

It's comeback season for Toronto's own Amanda Marshall, who has announced her fourth full-length studio album — previewed by new single "I Hope She Cheats," landing this Friday (March 31) — and a national tour.

Heavy Lifting is due this summer via Coalition Music / The Orchard. It marks the long-awaited follow-up to Marshall's 2001 multi-platinum Everybody's Got a Story.

"I started writing. And recording. For no one. For fun," the singer-songwriter explained in a statement. "I messed around. Experimented. Pounded on the piano in the middle of the night, turned my closet into a vocal booth. I sang every part and grooved in my pyjamas. I hummed harmonies into my phone on the subway like a maniac. I swore a lot. I screamed and laughed and cried and made a million mistakes because who cares? 'No one's ever gonna hear this.' Wrong. I made a record."

"An older musician once told me, 'Doesn't matter how many gold records you got — records is business. Stage is soul,'" she added of the tour, much of which will see support from Sophia Fracassi. "See you out there. I can't wait."

UPDATE (4/4 10:07 a.m. ET): Due to high demand, Marshall has added a second Toronto show to her itinerary. Tickets go on sale for the new date, in bold below, at 10 a.m. local time on Thursday (April 6).

Marshall's live dates will bring her to nine provinces, the shows kicking off in Moncton on June 11. She'll play Montreal, Peterborough, Toronto, London, Ottawa, Hamilton, Winnipeg, Regina, Edmonton, Calgary, Kelowna, Vancouver, Victoria and Saskatoon ahead of wrapping the tour at New Glasgow's Jubilee Festival on August 5.

Tickets go on sale Friday (March 31) at 10 a.m. local time via the artist's website.
