If you were bummed that Amadou and Mariam were skipping out on Canada during their upcoming tour with Coldplay, good news: the blind Malian duo have just lined up a pair of dates in the Great White North, minus those sappy Brits. The husband-wife team, or as our Jonathan Rothman described them, "the funkiest blind, married, French-speaking Afro-pop couple around," have announced they will play headlining shows in both Toronto on June 4 and in Montreal on June 5, guaranteed to cure any early summertime blues.
The dates will be in support of Amadou and Mariam's latest full-length, Welcome to Mali, which included a pile of celeb guests such as Blur's Damon Albarn, K'naan and Keziah Jones. The tour stops also come as a way to finally experience Amadou's guitar hero antics live and in the flesh, which are apparently quite the sight.
