Amsterdam psych-folkers Altin Gün are going back to their roots for their upcoming record. Aşk arrives March 10 via ATO Records.
Aşk will see the band rework a variety of Turkish folk standards, shedding new light onto the ancient songs. With the announcement, Altin Gün have shared "Rakıya Su Katamam," a space-rock reworking of a song originally by Turkish writer and theologian Mustafa Öztürk.
"These songs have been covered so many times, always," says vocalist and keyboardist Merve Dasdemir, with bassist Jasper Verhulst adding these covers have never been subjected to "psychedelic pop versions."
"It's definitely connecting more with a live sound — almost like a live album. We, as a band, just going into a rehearsal space together and creating music together instead of demoing at home," Verhulst continued.
In support of Aşk, Altin Gün will tour this summer to play their biggest North American shows to date — with their final stop happening at Toronto's Danforth Music Hall.
