After exploring The Underside of Power in 2017, Algiers have returned with details of a follow-up effort.
The band will release There Is No Year through Matador on January 17. Ten tracks in length, the album was recorded alongside Randall Dunn and Ben Greenberg. The first single, titled "Dispossession," arrives today, and you can hear it below.
"The specter of dispossession is haunting us all," bassist/keyboardist Ryan Mahan said in a statement. "Everywhere the imperial world represses the ghoulish histories that sustain our pasts, presents and futures. Franklin's lyrics throughout 'Dispossession' and on our new record, 'There is No Year', like a neo-Southern Gothic novel with an anti-oppression undercurrent, testify to this modern horror, and chronicle the various ways we all — through living and longing — endure and resist its persistent attacks."
Algiers have also revealed plans to tour the record early next year, with a pair of Canadian dates coming near end of their lengthy itinerary. They'll first play Toronto's Baby G on April 6, ahead of playing Montreal's Bar Le Ritz the following evening on April 7.
