Algiers

"Cleveland" (video)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jul 12, 2017

Algiers recently released their latest LP The Underside of Power, and now "Cleveland" from that record has been given the music video treatment.

The politically charged clip features the principles outlined by the Black Panthers, and it was filmed in Staten Island and east New York, where Eric Garner and Akai Gurley were fatally shot by the New York Police Department.

It also summons the memories of other victims of police violence like Kindra Chapman, Andre Jones, Lennon Lacy, Sandra Bland, Roosevelt Pernell, Keith Warren, Alfred Wright and Tamir Rice.

Algiers frontman Franklin James Fisher stars in the clip, and also self-directed it along with Marisa Gesualdi and Sam Campbell.
