Alanis Morissette's 'Jagged Little Pill' Musical to Debut Next Year

BY Sarah MurphyPublished May 30, 2017

Way back in 2013, we heard rumours that a musical interpretation of Alanis Morissette's classic 1995 album Jagged Little Pill was in the works, and now more details about the upcoming stage show have finally been revealed.

The musical is set to hit the stage in May 2018 at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, MA. Diablo Cody (best known as the screenwriter behind Juno and Young Adult) is helming the scriptwriting process, while Tony Award winner Diane Paulus will direct. Tom Kitt (whose previous work includes a stint on the stage adaptation of Green Day's American Idiot) will handle musical arrangement and orchestration.

"This team that has come together for this Jagged Little Pill musical is my musical theatre dream come true," Morissette said in a statement about the upcoming production. "The chemistry between all of us is crackling and I feel honoured to be diving into these songs again, surrounded by all this searing talent. Diablo and Diane are already taking these deeply personal songs that are part of my soul's marrow to a whole other level of hope, freedom, and complexity."

Since rumours of the show began to circulate, Morissette has also revisited the classic album with a 20th anniversary reissue of Jagged Little Pill that was released in 2015.
