Aiden Baker only just announced his collaborative B/B/S project, while his last Nadja album came out back in the fall, but the busy Canuck experimentalist has already laid plans for his next solo venture. His latest solo album, Already Drowning, will be out in the UK on April 15 through Gizeh Records.
Curiously, the album is a song cycle inspired by myths about female water spirits. A press release notes that Already Drowning is a departure for Baker, since "the tracks on this album are much more structured and song-oriented, embracing a minimalist post-rock, slowcore style.
Each of the seven lengthy tracks — all of which are over six minutes long — features a different female guest vocalist. They are Liz Hysen (Picastro), Carla Bozulich (Evangelista, the Geraldine Fibbers, Ethyl Meatplow), Jessica Bailiff, Clara Engel, Geneviève Castrée (aka Ô Paon), Joanna Kupnicka, Maude Oswald and Valérie Niederoest (Toboggan).
Listen to the epic-length title track down below. The album will be available to pre-order on vinyl, CD or digital download starting March 11.
On top of the new album, Baker also has several Canada and U.S. dates lined up, both solo and with Nadja. You can see them all below.
