The Afrobeat apples never fall far from the tree. As the legacy of the originator of Afrobeat, Fela Kuti, continues to spread, so too does the fame of his progeny. Seun Kuti, making his debut appearances in Canada this summer, is described as the badass yang to Femi's upstanding, positive-force yin. Seun will showcase his more confrontational take on Afrobeat with none other than Egypt 80, Fela's latter day ensemble. Now led by long-time inner-circle band member Lekan Animashun, Egypt 80 sounds better than ever. Chicago-based Still Music has released the Think Africa EP, which finds the rough-voiced Seun testifying over grooves with more fire than most latter-day Fela efforts. Comparisons will be inevitable as Femi tours the country as well.
