It's been a few years since Vancouver's the Abramson Singers released their self-titled album in 2010, and the Leah Abramson-led group will follow it up this spring. Late Riser drops on May 14.
The album was produced by BC studio guru Colin Stewart (Dan Mangan, A.C. Newman, Black Mountain). Initial sessions took place at a residency in Banff, AB, with Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire, Wolf Parade), Tony Berg (Ohbijou, X) and Shawn Everett (Weezer, k.d. lang).
According to a press release, "This album finds the Singers with lush band arrangements, relatively upbeat tempos, retro organs and catchy melodies." Guest performers include Samantha Parton of the Be Good Tanyas, fiddle player Rayna Gellert, and k.d. lang band member Josh Grange.
The songs reportedly touch on everything from stage fright to death to Métis rebel leader Louis Riel. Stream or download the atmospherically rustic "Jack of Diamonds" over at SoundCloud.
