Vocal-driven folk-pop act the Abramson Singers will release their new album Late Riser next week, but you can stream it here, right now.
Led by Leah Abramson, the Vancouver group joined with producer Colin Stewart (Dan Mangan, Destroyer) for the new record, which follows 2010's self-titled debut. Members of the band hail from Dan Mangan's band, Snowblink and Petunia & the Vipers, while they also recruited guests from k.d. lang's band and the Be Good Tanyas.
Abramson is currently a professor at the University of British Columbia, teaching songwriting to undergrads. According to a press release, "Her love of bringing the unique character voices alive through song is something that she both teaches and expresses in her songwriting," especially through the use of melody, harmony and unusual time signatures.
The new record features "sparse folk and lush arrangements," but also embraces pop and indie rock sensibilities. The group will be heading out on a Canadian tour soon and you can read the details here.
Late Riser arrives on May 14, but you can listen to it now below.
