Okay, so those rumours of a Digable Planets reunion seem to have amounted to nothing, but fans of vintage hip-hop can now look forward to the return of at least one long-defunct group, as the filthy-mouthed 2 Live Crew have announced that they'll be touring in 2012.
Group member Luther Campbell recently announced the reunion at Sundance Film Festival, where he is promoting his flick The Life and Freaky Times of Uncle Luke. He said [via the Associated Press], "We're going to perform the songs and everybody's going to be excited. Some of the older people of our generation will be able to tell their kids, 'You're staying home tonight, we're going to see 2 Live Crew and shake our booty!'"
Evidently the group still have a ways to go before they're stage-ready, as Campbell said, "I just can't wait to just start practising. That's going to be a blast."
2 Live Crew will apparently be playing shows this summer, meaning that we can soon expect to hear sexually charged raps like "Me So Horny," "Pop That Pussy" and "Dick Almighty" live from the stage. The group haven't played together since the '90s, so it remains to be seen whether these songs are still considered edgy enough to warrant obscenity charges. Somehow we doubt it.
