Top Chef Masters winner Floyd Cardoz has died after testing positive for COVID-19. He was 59 years old.
Cardoz competed on Top Chef, won Top Chef Masters in 2010 and owned restaurants in New York and Mumbai.
He had reportedly travelled from Mumbai to New York via Frankfurt earlier this month. He was admitted to Mountainside Medical Center in Montclair, NJ, a week ago, where he tested positive for COVID-19.
Cardoz partnered with restaurateur Danny Meyer to open Tabla in New York in 1997. The critically acclaimed restaurant closed in 2010. They also partnered on the North End Grill in New York in 2012; it closed in 2018.
Cardoz was nominated for a James Beard Award four times, and authored two cook books.
